Parent Partnership Organisation

How many parents of secondary school students have lost touch with their child’s classroom environment?  Too many, according to Murdoch College Principal, Mr Stephen Fisher.

The College operates on a three-way communication system that requires parents to take an active interest in their child’s education experience.  The Parent Partnership Organisation (PPO) meets with Mr Fisher regularly each term. Mr Fisher presents a Principal's Report, outlining changes and events happening at the College. The PPO feeds back comments and suggestions for the College through Mr Fisher. The PPO also organises family social events throughout the year to provide families with an opportunity to meet each other and form a supporter base.

In February every year, parents attend the College’s Trading Places evening.  They follow their child’s timetable, moving from classroom to classroom, meeting teachers and getting a ‘feel’ for the objectives of the year.

Trading Places is fun, but the intent is serious.  It increases parents’ awareness of their child’s environment at school and it opens the way for a better understanding between parents, students and teachers.  Parent Seminars are held every month during the academic year at Murdoch College.  These informal and friendly sessions are an important part of the College’s communication process:  the academic staff is able to introduce new programs to parents, and expand on the parents’ understanding of the pedagogy underpinning the College’s curriculum.
